MAIN PURPOSES The exceptional confirmation of the breed is the principal reason for the success of the Charmoise ram in commercial crossbreeding schemes for the production of quality primestock lamb. Finally, the fine bone structure is also an asset which justifies the use of the Charmoise ram to service ewe lambs of all breeds, with the knowledge that lambing will be problem free. QUALITIES The
Charmoise thrives on poorer pastures, making maximum use of natural forage
resources, and requires minimum attention, whilst the ability to retain its body
condition. Because of the small head and shoulders it is a very easy breed to
lamb and the ewes have plenty of milk with tight firm udders making them a
pleasure to shepherd. Usually reared in very difficult conditions, the Charmoise
has acquired the reputation for hardiness and resistance, enabling it to adapt
to most conditions. The Charmoise breed also has the ability of lambing out of
season, enabling them to fit in with different farm management systems. Ideal
for improving the confirmation of hill lambs. |
